Anglican Priest Killed After Kidnapping in Kaduna

In the midst of relentless kidnappings in northern Nigeria, the Church of Nigeria has confirmed that Anglican priest Rev. Edwin Achi, abducted with his wife Sarah and their daughter from Nissi village in Kaduna’s Chikun County on Oct. 28, has died in captivity. Kidnappers had demanded 600 million naira (about $415,000), and a photo released before his death showed Achi and his wife alongside other Christian hostages, underscoring that this was part of a wider kidnapping crisis, not an isolated crime. As church leaders grieve “a painful loss” and continue to pray for the release of his family, Nigeria’s president has ordered 20,000 more police amid mass abductions of schoolchildren and worshippers by extremist Fulani militias, Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other jihadist groups that overwhelmingly target Christians.
