In the struggle between our spiritual and carnal natures, we are often tempted to seek peace through compromise. The text reminds us that a “Carnal Christian” risks allowing their fleshly desires to lead them away from the true purpose of life in Christ. As we examine 1 John 4:5 and 1 Peter 4:11, we see that there are stark differences between what the carnally minded and the spiritually minded feed upon.
The carnally minded feed on distractions such as television, glamour, and pleasures, seeking fulfillment in worldly success. In contrast, those who are spiritually minded feed on the Word of God, prayer, holiness, and good works. This spiritual nourishment fosters true peace and fulfillment that only Christ can provide, as indicated in Romans 13:14, where we are called to “make no provision for the flesh.”
Let us be diligent in choosing what we feed our spirits and minds, knowing that true peace comes from aligning ourselves with God’s will.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, we thank You for the gift of Your Word, which guides us in our journey of faith. Help us to recognize the distractions and temptations of this world that lead us away from You. Grant us the strength to feed on what truly nourishes our souls—Your Word, prayer, and acts of service. May we strive to be spiritually minded in all we do, seeking Your holiness and goodness in our lives. Fill us with Your peace and help us to live in a way that reflects Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
