The official U.S. Southern Command account posted an image promoting Operation Southern Spear, an ongoing mission focused on disrupting drug trafficking and strengthening security in the SOUTHCOM region.
But what captured the internet’s attention was a detail on the soldier’s helmet: the Jerusalem Cross used by the Kingdom of Jerusalem during the Crusades and by orders like the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
Within hours, the post went viral.
Many praised the image, saying it was powerful to see a Christian symbol appear in official U.S. military media. Others argued that the helmet should display only the American flag.
