Director Mel Gibson has officially completed principal photography on The Resurrection of the Christ, the long-awaited sequel to his 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ.
In an emotional speech to the cast and crew after the 134-day shoot, Gibson took the microphone to express his gratitude:“I just want to tell you all thank you so much for all your efforts, your support, your sacrifice, your love… the prayers and intercessions… Now it’s time to make sure the Lord gets glorified in all of this.”
The ambitious two-part project explores the 40 days following the crucifixion and delves into deeper theological and spiritual themes. Jim Caviezel will not return as Jesus, with Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen taking over the role.
The films are now scheduled for release in 2027 and 2028.The video of Gibson’s heartfelt thank-you on set has gone viral, generating strong excitement among faith communities worldwide.
