AN ASTRONAUT WALKED ON THE MOON AND SAID GOD WALKING ON EARTH MATTERED MORE AND THAT MAKES PEOPLE ANGRY
When James Irwin said God walking on earth mattered more than man walking on the moon, he was not rejecting science. He was ranking significance, and that exposes modern insecurity.
Irwin walked on the moon. He saw Earth in the blackness of space. If anyone could worship human achievement, it was him. Instead, he humbled it.
Genesis shows a vast creation, but also says humans bear God’s image. Exploration expands knowledge. Incarnation changes history.
John 1 says the Word became flesh. Philippians 2 says God entered weakness. Hebrews 2 says He took human nature. Scripture does not celebrate God visiting stars. It celebrates God entering suffering.
Culture cheers progress without asking purpose. The moon landing proves intelligence. The incarnation proves mercy.
Irwin’s quote unsettles pride. It says redemption matters more than discovery. The greatest event in history was not technological but relational.
Man on the moon shows what we can build. God among men shows what He was willing to suffer.
The gospel is not about how high we climb. It is about how low God came.
