Ezekiel Didn’t Go Viral—He Obeyed. And It Cost Him Over a Year of His Life.
Modern Christianity loves comfort, relevance, and optics. Ezekiel had none of that.
God commanded the prophet Ezekiel to lie on his side—publicly—for 390 days, then switch sides for 40 more. Over a year on the ground. Barely moving. Exposed. Humiliated. Watched. Mocked. Ignored.
This was not symbolic poetry. It was embodied obedience.
Ezekiel’s body became the message. Every day he lay there was a living indictment against Israel’s sin. No platform. No applause. No explanation that made it palatable. Just obedience that looked insane to everyone watching.
Here’s the part many believers miss: God did not ask Ezekiel to be effective. He asked him to be faithful.
We often say we want to be used by God—until it costs reputation, comfort, productivity, or dignity. Ezekiel shows us a faith that doesn’t negotiate terms. A faith that obeys even when it looks pointless, humiliating, and extreme.
If obedience today feels inconvenient, remember this: God once asked a man to give up an entire year of his life lying in the dirt so the people could see the weight of their sin.
That’s not religious performance.
That’s prophetic faith.
