Franklin Graham is calling on Christians worldwide to pray for 78-year-old retired pastor Clive Johnston from Northern Ireland. In May 2026, Pastor Johnston was convicted and fined £450 for preaching a sermon on John 3:16 on a public sidewalk near Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.
According to reports and Graham, Johnston did not mention abortion during his message he simply shared the Gospel. He is represented by The Christian Institute, which plans to appeal the conviction under Northern Ireland’s Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) Act.
Graham highlighted that religious freedoms are under pressure in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and other nations. He urged believers to pray for Pastor Johnston, his legal team, and for the protection of religious liberty around the world.
This case has drawn attention to the balance between free speech and buffer zone laws. Many are praying for a successful appeal and continued strength for Pastor Johnston.
