For years, many people have said Christianity is dying in Europe.
Church attendance has declined. Secularism has risen. And in countries like the Netherlands, a majority of the population now claims no religious affiliation at all.
But something unexpected is happening.
While headlines often focus on faith fading away, tens of thousands of believers recently gathered to worship Jesus in one of the most secular nations on earth.
More than 60,000 Christians attended the annual Opwekking Pentecost Conference in the Netherlands, a four-day event centered on worship, prayer, teaching, and seeking God together. The word “Opwekking” means “revival,” and for many who attended, that is exactly what they believe they are witnessing.
What makes this story even more remarkable is who is showing up.
Nearly half of the attendees this year were under the age of 30.
Think about that for a moment.
At a time when many assume young people are abandoning faith, thousands of young adults are gathering to worship Jesus, study Scripture, and openly seek the presence of God.
The event took place at Walibi Holland near Amsterdam, where believers filled campsites, worship gatherings, and ministry events throughout the Pentecost weekend. Many described the atmosphere as one of deep hunger for God and renewed spiritual passion.
European evangelist Jean-Luc Trachsel called it a powerful sign that “the wind of revival” is blowing across Europe.
And the Netherlands is not the only place where this is happening.
In recent months, large public gatherings of Christians have also been reported across France, where believers from different denominations have united to pray, worship, and boldly proclaim the Gospel. Thousands have taken to city streets declaring that Jesus Christ remains the hope of their nation.
Perhaps the most surprising part of this story is that it comes from a region many had written off as spiritually cold.
Yet throughout history, God has often moved in places where people least expected it.
Revival rarely begins with crowds.
It begins with hunger.
It begins when ordinary people start seeking God again.
It begins when a generation decides that success, entertainment, and endless distractions are not enough to satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
Could we be witnessing the early signs of something bigger?
Only time will tell.
But one thing is certain: thousands of young people are turning their attention toward Christ, and that is a story worth celebrating.
Pray for Europe. Pray for the next generation. Pray that hearts would continue to be awakened to the hope found in Jesus Christ alone.
