TCU to Sunset Gender and Race Studies Programs

Texas Christian University in Fort Worth has announced it will “sunset” its Women & Gender Studies and Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies departments at the end of the 2025–26 academic year, moving their courses and faculty under the English department. A TCU spokesperson says the decision is driven by low enrollment—nine undergrads in Race/Ethnic Studies and two in Women & Gender Studies—yet it comes on the heels of the school eliminating its Office of Diversity and Inclusion and DEI web pages, fueling debate over whether Christian universities should scale back or reframe identity-focused programs. Students will still be able to major or minor in the fields through other departments.
