Texas Couple Welcomes Rare Quadruplet Girls After IUD Pregnancy

A Texas couple is sharing a remarkable birth story after welcoming four baby girls from an incredibly rare pregnancy.

Adriana Luna and her fiancé, Anthony Lerma, were shocked to discover they were expecting quadruplets—especially since Luna became pregnant while using an intrauterine device (IUD), a form of birth control that fails in fewer than 1% of cases in the first year, according to the World Health Organization.

Naturally conceived quadruplets are extremely uncommon, occurring in roughly 1 out of every 512,000 to 700,000 pregnancies.

The couple, who already have a 2-year-old son, welcomed their daughters—Amora, Analia, Arya, and A’zura—on Valentine’s Day.

The girls were born prematurely at 29 weeks and 4 days but are reported to be in stable condition.

Doctors believe the girls may be identical, which would make the case even rarer. The likelihood of identical, all-female quadruplets is estimated between 1 in 240 million and 1 in 640 million, though DNA testing is needed to confirm.
