The Kingsborough Centre, with support from Christian Concern’s legal arm, challenged a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) that had abruptly criminalized their peaceful evangelism activities, including preaching, handing out leaflets like “How Can I Know God?”, and displaying signs such as “Jesus Christ is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.” The church, unaware of the PSPO until it was enforced, argued that the order violated fundamental rights to religious expression, free speech, and assembly under the European Convention on Human Rights. After a High Court judicial review, the council conceded that the restrictions were unlawful, removed the bans on amplification and religious materials, and agreed to pay the church’s legal costs.
