Mel Gibson’s sequel to The Passion of the Christ is titled The Resurrection of the Christ, a two-part epic exploring Jesus’ resurrection, set to release in 2027 on Good Friday (Part One) and Ascension Day (Part Two), with a new cast, notably Jaakko Ohtonen as Jesus, as Jim Caviezel is not returning.
Moving beyond the suffering in The Passion, this sequel aims to explore the spiritual and philosophical aspects of the Resurrection, the meaning of mankind, and the conflict between good and evil.
