America Reads the Bible Initiative Launches

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, House Speaker Mike Johnson stood at the Museum of the Bible to declare that our future is written in its past. Kicking off the ‘America Reads the Bible’ initiative, Johnson was among nearly 500 leaders—including government officials and citizens—committing to read the Word of God cover to cover.

For Johnson, the Bible is more than a historical artifact; it is a lifeline. Sharing a personal testimony, he recalled how his father’s miraculous survival from a 1984 fire, despite a 5% chance to live, solidified his faith at age 12. ‘That event… made the promises of Scripture so true,’ Johnson said, ‘I actually saw a miracle.’

Addressing the crowd, he delivered a powerful reminder of the Bible’s role in personal and national stability:

‘A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.’

This week-long marathon is a call for national renewal, reminding us that the ‘American experiment’ is built upon the flawless truths of the Gospel. It’s an invitation for every believer to let the Light of the World lead us home.
