Former British Columbia school trustee Barry Neufeld is heading to the B.C. Supreme Court to challenge a staggering $750,000 penalty. The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal recently ordered the fine, claiming Neufeld ‘poisoned’ the workplace by speaking out against gender ideology in public schools.
Neufeld, however, remains resolute, framing his struggle as a defense of Christian convictions. He stated that his views are rooted in the biblical truth that ‘God created humans male and female.’ Describing his role as both ‘pastoral’ and ‘prophetic,’ Neufeld argued he has a responsibility to challenge cultural shifts that conflict with the Gospel, even when it comes at a high personal cost.
The former trustee called the massive financial penalty a ‘blessing in disguise,’ suggesting it has exposed a ‘power trip’ by secular authorities. He expressed deep concern that people of faith are being marginalized for holding traditional views on family, warning that such ‘draconian’ rulings are meant to ensure ‘no one else will ever dare to criticize’ current social ideologies. For Neufeld, this legal battle is not just about a fine; it is about the right to speak biblical truth in the public square.
