A renewed debate is unfolding within the Southern Baptist Convention as former SBC Bible teacher and Living Proof Ministries founder Beth Moore publicly criticized the denomination’s leadership ahead of its annual meeting. Having left the SBC in 2021 after more than 40 years of ministry, Moore said the convention appeared more focused on protecting church leaders and restricting women from preaching than protecting women and children from abuse.
She also warned that the denomination’s past response to critical race theory could be repeated in discussions about women in ministry, creating fear and silencing important conversations. Moore’s comments have reignited questions about accountability, leadership, and the Church’s responsibility to care for the vulnerable. Should protecting people always take priority over protecting positions of power?
