Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid shared that a defining encounter with God in the 1980s led him to confront his cocaine addiction and the direction of his life.
He recalled going home one night and having what he described as a “white light” moment, where he clearly saw his future ending in one of three ways. Dead, in jail, or losing everything he had. He knew he did not want that life and recognized it as a moment of divine intervention.
Quaid explained that substances promise happiness but never deliver lasting peace. He said drugs and alcohol give temporary joy, but true joy comes from our relationship with God. What begins as pleasure eventually turns into problems and bondage.
According to Quaid, what people are truly searching for is the joy of life, and that joy is a gift from God. He credits returning to his Christian faith and walking in relationship with God as the foundation that has sustained his sobriety.
