Denzel Washington recalled a powerful encounter with God during a church service, saying, “I was filled with the Holy Ghost and it scared me.” He said he went to the altar, surrendered, and “experienced something I’ve never experienced in my life.”
Looking back, Washington said the moment was real and life-shaping, even though he was not ready at the time to fully live it out. “I definitely experienced it, but I wasn’t ready to live it,” he said, describing it as something that still helped keep him grounded.
Washington has also spoken honestly about the challenge of faith, admitting that trusting the gospel can be difficult when “the mind never shuts off.” Even so, he said this season of his life is focused on truth, doing good, and being open about his relationship with God.
