Faith and Forgiveness After Infidelity

Can a marriage survive after the devastating pain of infidelity? For Al and Lisa Robertson of Duck Dynasty, the answer is a resounding yes—but only through a radical, Christ-centered transformation.

In their Lifetime film Faith & Forgiveness, the couple openly shares how secret shame and marital isolation led to Lisa’s affair. Al admitted he had failed to include Lisa in his ministry, leaving her ‘lonely and emotionally isolated.’ Yet, instead of walking away, they looked to the cross.

The turning point came when Lisa, overwhelmed by her secret, broke down in her backyard and cried out to God. ‘He came, and He rescued me,’ she recalled, describing the moment that sparked her true repentance, leading to baptism and deep counseling.

Al, remembering that Lisa had previously forgiven his own past infidelity, chose to mirror the Gospel. ‘I have the capacity to forgive as God forgives,’ he stated. Choosing grace over divorce, they renewed their vows in 1999.

Today, they challenge the cultural norm that adultery must mean the end. Their journey proves that when couples ground themselves in honesty and faith, redemption is possible. As Lisa beautifully notes, ‘We also need to look at ourselves the way Jesus looks at us.’
