Fernando Mendoza, Indiana’s Heisman-winning quarterback from overlooked Miami roots, just led the Hoosiers to College Football Playoff glory. In a thriller at Hard Rock Stadium, Indiana sealed the National Championship with a game-ending interception against Miami.
Postgame, the Christian star praised God first. “First of all I want to give all the glory and thanks to God,” Mendoza said, crediting God for the victory. Win or lose, he would give all glory to God.
He also opened up about his past: overlooked as a two-star recruit at Christopher Columbus High, yet that brotherhood shaped his unbreakable spirit. Now, full circle in his hometown, he gave glory to God again for lifting him from obscurity to champion. The irony is strong for Miami, who overlooked Mendoza, who would then lead his team to defeat that very same team.
