Renowned actor and comedian John Cleese has publicly criticized the global silence following recent Easter attacks in Nigeria, which reportedly left at least 26 people dead.
Cleese argued that the lack of international outcry shows the world has failed to live up to the popular slogan “Black lives matter.” He wrote on social media that it appears “Black Lives Don’t Matter” when those being murdered are Christians whose plight is being ignored by mainstream media.
His comments were in response to civil rights attorney Leo Terrell, who questioned why the world remained silent about the massacre of Christians by Islamist terrorists.
Cleese suggested that the media silence is politically motivated, claiming that the lack of coverage is designed to protect the image of the attackers rather than honoring the victims.
The tragedy in Nigeria has raised ongoing concerns about the targeted persecution of believers and the selective attention of the global community toward human rights violations.
