he Apostle John was exiled to the Greek island of Patmos during the reign of Roman Emperor Domitian (AD 81–96) for preaching about Jesus. According to Revelation 1:9, John was sent there “because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.” Early Christian writers like Irenaeus and Eusebius confirm that while on Patmos, John received the visions that became the Book of Revelation. Today, the island remains an important Christian site, with the Cave of the Apocalypse marking the place where John is believed to have written his prophetic messages.
