Most people know Jonah as the guy swallowed by a giant fish, but did you know his time inside wasn’t just a weird event? It was a prophetic shadow pointing straight to Jesus.
In Jonah 1:17, it says Jonah spent three days and three nights inside the fish’s belly. Jesus Himself referenced this as a sign when He said in Matthew 12:40:
“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
But Jonah’s mission didn’t end there. After his rescue, Jonah went to Nineveh to preach repentance—and the entire city turned from their wicked ways and was saved (Jonah 3). This highlights another key prophetic truth: Jesus’ death and resurrection are not just about victory over death, but also about calling people to turn from sin and be saved.
Jonah’s story shows us God’s heart for repentance and restoration, revealing how the resurrection power of Jesus offers new life to all who believe and repent!
