Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus in the series The Chosen, shared an emotional reflection about filming the crucifixion scene, describing the experience as far more than acting.
“This set wasn’t just lights and cameras for me,” Roumie wrote. He recalled enduring freezing nights with little clothing and the physical strain of repeatedly carrying the crossbeam. “Filming Your crucifixion, Lord… it broke me wide open. Physically worn down, emotionally drained—yet it felt like the most sacred thing I’ve ever been part of.”
Roumie said he offered the pain and exhaustion as an act of devotion. “I offered every bit of that pain, every tear that fell, every tremble in my body as my small, imperfect ‘yes’ to You.”
Reflecting on the meaning of the crucifixion, he added, “What You did wasn’t a rehearsal or a scene. It was real love poured out to the very last breath—for me, for all of us.” He concluded with a message of gratitude: “Jesus, thank You for not coming down. Thank You for staying.
