Louisiana has made history with one of the toughest child-protection laws in America. Governor Jeff Landry has signed Act 651, giving judges the power to order surgical castration for anyone convicted of the most horrific sexual crimes against children under 13. This makes Louisiana the first state in the nation to allow this level of punishment for offenders who target the most vulnerable. The law isn’t automatic — it’s issued at a judge’s discretion — but those who refuse the procedure can face an additional 3–5 years in prison. Supporters say it sends a clear message: the days of soft consequences for predators are over.
