Michigan Lawmaker Karen Whitsett Leaves Politics Over Faith

Karen Whitsett says she is standing by her decision to step away from politics because of her Christian faith.

The Detroit lawmaker said she can no longer reconcile the platform of the Democratic Party with Scripture and therefore will not seek reelection or run for public office again.

Whitsett said the decision is spiritual rather than political, explaining that she had “compromised” her relationship with Jesus for too long and now wants to remain fully devoted to Him. She cited issues such as abortion, homosexuality and gender identity as areas where she believes the party’s stance conflicts with her faith.

Whitsett added that she answers to God above public approval and hopes her statements encourage others to seek Him.
