A major legal battle is unfolding in Nevada after Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill refused to release a repeat offender with 35 prior arrests despite a judge ordering house arrest.
The suspect, Joshua Sanchez-Lopez, has a criminal history that includes involuntary manslaughter and multiple alleged violations while out of custody. Authorities say he previously cut off ankle monitors and even mocked law enforcement online after fleeing supervision.
McMahill says the decision is about protecting innocent people before another tragedy happens.
The case is now before the Nevada Supreme Court and could determine whether law enforcement has the authority to block court-ordered releases they believe put the public at risk.
The Bible teaches both mercy and justice. But across America, innocent lives have been lost after violent repeat offenders were repeatedly released back onto the streets.
Do you support the sheriff’s decision?
