Controversy erupted after reports claimed Muslim men being deported from Ireland to Pakistan were served pork sausages during a charter deportation flight from Dublin to Islamabad.
According to reports, the September 2025 flight carried 24 men, many described as failed asylum seekers with criminal records. A government appointed human rights monitor criticized the meal, calling the inclusion of pork inappropriate given the passengers’ religious beliefs and destination.
The report also stated the men had been detained overnight in multiple prisons before boarding the flight.
While the monitor reportedly noted that the deportation operation itself was conducted properly, the catering served on board quickly became the focus of backlash and debate online.
Irish authorities are now expected to review food and catering procedures for future deportation flights.
The situation sparked widespread reactions across social media, with some calling the incident disrespectful while others argued the controversy was being exaggerated. Some people said the traditional Irish recipe should be expected in the culture.
