Possible Mount Sinai Evidence Found in Saudi Arabia

Mount Sinai, located at Jebel al-Lawz in Saudi Arabia, is a site that some researchers identify as the true location of the biblical mountain described in Exodus. The summit is burnt, consistent with the account in Exodus 19:18, which describes God descending upon the mountain in fire. At the base of the mountain is a large stone structure, often referred to as the “Golden Calf Altar,” featuring carvings of cows, believed to be connected to the Israelites’ worship of the golden calf during the exodus. Nearby, remnants of ancient ovens have been discovered, which are thought to have been used to melt gold for the construction of the idol. Other carvings and inscriptions have been found in the area, suggesting the presence of a large group likely the children of Israel. The location also matches the geographical route described in the Bible as the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land, offering evidence that ties the site to the events of the Exodus narrative.
