Puerto Rico Recognizes Unborn Children as Legal Persons

Puerto Rico has passed Senate Bill 504, legislation recognizing unborn children as legal persons from the moment of conception.

Signed by Governor Jenniffer González Colón, the law updates the territory’s Civil Code and provides unborn children with legal recognition in several areas, including insurance eligibility, inheritance considerations, and legal representation under certain circumstances.

The bill received strong legislative support and took effect immediately.

Supporters describe the measure as a significant step toward affirming the dignity and value of human life from its earliest stage.
