Real estate entrepreneur Samuel Leeds has announced a plan to buy church buildings that are shutting down across the UK in order to preserve them for Christian worship rather than allowing them to be converted into apartments, restaurants, or other venues.
In recent years, thousands of churches have closed across Britain due to declining attendance and rising maintenance costs. Many of these historic buildings have been sold and repurposed for other uses.
Leeds says his motivation is not profit but faith:
“If it was built as a church, I believe it needs to stay as a church… a place to honor Jesus Christ.”
He has already reportedly made a £225,000 offer for a Methodist church in the West Midlands and says that if he acquires church buildings, he would allow congregations to use them rent-free for worship, ministry, and serving their communities.
The investor also believes the UK may see a spiritual revival and that preserving church buildings today will help prepare for future generations seeking Christ.
Pray for revival in England and across the world.
