Secret Faith, Providential Marriage in India

In 1978, a Christian man returned from America to India hoping to find a wife through an arranged marriage. At a bus station, he met a woman who would soon become his bride.

What neither of them knew at the time was that both were secretly Christians.

Each had been influenced by Christian grandmothers in separate villages and had quietly held onto their faith while hiding it from family members to avoid bringing shame or conflict.

Just four days later, they were married in a traditional Hindu ceremony without ever discussing Jesus or revealing their beliefs to one another.

During their honeymoon, the bride sat reading her Bible privately for comfort. When her husband walked in, she quickly tried to hide it behind her back.

He noticed and asked what she was hiding.

When she revealed the Bible, he responded, “Praise God!”

What followed was the shocking realization that they had both secretly been following Christ the entire time.

Their daughter, Dr. Smita R. Ramanadham, later shared the story and described it as a powerful example of God’s providence and guidance.

What looked like coincidence became a reminder that God is able to guide lives together in ways people could never plan on their own.
