Singing Through the Storm in Mississippi

Members of Coaltown Baptist Church were singing “Amazing Grace” when a tornado tore through the area and ripped the roof off part of the church building during a severe storm outbreak in Mississippi.

According to reports, everyone inside the church escaped safely despite the powerful tornado causing major damage to the fellowship hall. The moment drew widespread attention because worship continued even as the storm moved through.

Mississippi was hit by multiple tornadoes during the outbreak, leaving destruction across several communities and damaging homes, buildings, and infrastructure.

The story became a powerful picture of faith in the middle of chaos. As strong winds tore apart the building around them, church members continued singing one of Christianity’s most well known hymns about God’s grace and faithfulness.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”

Though the building suffered heavy damage, the fact that everyone survived safely gave church members and the surrounding community a reason to be deeply thankful.
