Vanderbilt basketball player Tyler Tanner is using his platform for something bigger than basketball. Tanner has openly shared that his purpose is “to bring people to Christ,” making it clear that his faith in Jesus is more important to him than points, wins, or personal recognition. While many athletes are defined by their performance on the court, Tanner says his ultimate goal is to point others to the Gospel.
Tanner’s testimony is a reminder that God can use any platform for His glory. Whether someone is an athlete, teacher, business owner, or student, every believer has an opportunity to influence others for Christ. Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). For Tanner, basketball is the platform, but sharing Jesus is the mission.
