Vance’s Christian Nation Comment Sparks Debate

Speaking before thousands at AmericaFest in Phoenix, Vance said America’s deepest foundation has never been politics, wealth, or military power, but the moral framework rooted in Christianity.

“The only thing that has truly served as an anchor of the United States of America is that we have been, and by the grace of God, we always will be, a Christian nation,” Vance told the crowd.

The statement immediately sparked backlash online and across major media outlets, with critics accusing Vance of promoting Christian nationalism and blurring the line between faith and government.

Vance later clarified he was not arguing every American must be Christian, but that Christianity helped shape the nation’s understanding of human dignity, natural rights, conscience, justice, and moral responsibility.

For many believers, the moment highlighted a growing cultural divide over whether faith should remain central to America’s identity or be pushed entirely out of public life.

Psalm 127:1
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”

The debate continues raising larger questions:
Can a nation keep its moral foundation after abandoning the beliefs that built it?
