In ancient times, shepherds anointed their sheep with oil—not just as a ritual, but for very practical reasons: to protect their skin from pests, to heal wounds, and to prepare for the challenges the sheep would face.
The Bible uses anointing and oil as powerful symbols of God’s presence, protection, provision, and healing in our lives. When David was anointed by Samuel, it signified God setting him apart and equipping him with His Spirit to lead and protect His people (1 Samuel 16:13). Jesus, our Good Shepherd, anointed us with the Holy Spirit, the living oil that breaks every yoke of bondage (Isaiah 10:27) and brings freedom and healing (Psalm 23:5).
As you yield to God daily, pray for His Spirit to fill and empower you (Ephesians 5:18). The anointing is both a gift and a continual experience as you walk with Him. With the anointing you can expect to always walk victoriously—even through trials.
