Attack After Religion Question in Parkland, Washington

Parkland, WA: A 54-year-old man was seriously injured and his dog gravely wounded early Sunday morning after a stranger reportedly asked him what religion he practiced—and then attacked both him and his pet moments after he answered “Christian,” and then he fled.

Both the man and his dog were taken to local medical facilities for treatment. The victim has since been released from the hospital, while the dog underwent emergency surgery. Deputies, joined by a K-9 unit, searched the neighborhood for over two hours. Around 8:40 a.m., a deputy spotted a suspect matching the description. As the suspect fled behind a nearby home, officers reported shots fired. The sheriff’s office confirmed the suspect was struck by gunfire and later died from his injuries.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect was armed with multiple knives and resisted efforts to apprehend him, prompting deputies to use lethal force during the encounter.

Christians are being increasingly confronted for their beliefs in the U.S. When the disciples asked Jesus what to expect as His followers, Christ warned them of opposition rooted in spiritual resentment:

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you.” — John 15:18

The early church experienced harassment and violence simply for declaring the name of Jesus. And yet, Scripture encourages believers to stand firm, remembering that persecution often accompanies faithful witness.
