Ben Fuller: No Filter, Just Jesus

Christian country artist Ben Fuller is speaking candidly about addiction recovery, sudden fame and the need for transparency in the contemporary Christian music industry, saying his only foundation now is Christ.

The 38-year-old singer-songwriter, whose new album Walk Through Fire released June 6, said he refuses to present a polished or airbrushed testimony. “This is really what God did in my life, and this is really what God is doing right now,” Fuller said, explaining that his concerts are not performances but “for reals.”

Fuller openly discusses losing his best friend to heroin, years of substance abuse, heartbreak and a strained relationship with his father. Quoting Psalm 139, he said, “I’ve tried running. But there’s no hiding. He found me in Vermont. He found me in addiction.” Reflecting on his journey, he added, “Thank God I had to walk through fire,” because through it God shaped him into “this man who trusts in the Lord with all of his heart.”

Confession and accountability remain central to his life. “When the Bible says we can bring the darkness to the light, it’s true,” he said, noting that silence allows lies to “cyclone in your head.” Fuller admitted he still faces struggles with lust, anxiety and doubt, but now chooses honesty over secrecy.

As his profile rises — including a duet with Carrie Underwood at the Grand Ole Opry and viral success with “If I Got Jesus” — Fuller said he is intentionally slowing down to avoid burnout and spiritual compromise. “I want to work with Him, not just for Him. I want His will, not mine,” he said.

He also warned that parts of the CCM industry can drift from prayer and humility. “Whether it’s wanting awards or drinking too much, it’s all sin. It’s all a derailment from Jesus,” Fuller said, urging believers to resist letting the world “hijack” what belongs to God.

For Fuller, the message behind his music is simple. “To whom else shall we go? Only You have the words of eternal life,” he said, quoting John 6:68. “I got nothing else but Jesus now.”
