In the late 1970s, Bob Dylan stunned fans by declaring he had become a born-again Christian. After completing discipleship at a California Calvary Chapel, he released gospel albums including Slow Train Coming and Saved, even as critics mocked his “Jesus phase.”
In a 1980 handwritten letter, Dylan openly professed his faith: “The Spirit of the Lord is calling people,” he wrote, adding, “God will lift up your heart as you begin to realize that ‘He thru Christ has reconciled man unto Himself.’”
He closed the letter with a bold declaration: “Always in the name of Jesus Christ Son of God, Manifest in the flesh.”
Despite backlash and rumors over the years, Dylan has continued to indicate he believes in Jesus.
