New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr publicly praised God’s faithfulness after his family endured a series of painful trials, including his wife’s burn injuries and a miscarriage.
Speaking at ChurchLV in Las Vegas, Carr addressed both football rumors and personal hardships. He confirmed he has a shoulder injury but dismissed speculation, saying the team is aware and “there’s nothing wrong” beyond working through the issue.
Carr then described a frightening accident while on vacation. As his wife, Heather, tried to light a backyard fire pit, it exploded. “Propane fire, boom. She’s on fire,” he said. She suffered second-degree burns on her arm, face and neck. “Praise God, she’s doing great,” Carr added, noting her recovery has been remarkable.
Days later, Heather was rushed to the emergency room again due to ongoing health concerns. After hours of testing, doctors assured them she was physically fine. But the couple then received unexpected news: Heather had miscarried a pregnancy they didn’t know about.
“We didn’t know we had a baby,” Carr said. “Now we’re hit with this emotional toll of, wait, we had a child?”
The outspoken Christian said his faith anchors him in grief. “We don’t just have four babies, we have five. One is in heaven,” he shared, expressing confidence they will meet their child one day.
Carr also urged people not to judge others without knowing their struggles and emphasized that public opinion is secondary to God’s truth. “The only opinion that matters…is the Word of God.”
Amid the hardship, Carr celebrated a spiritual milestone: his three sons were recently baptized. “If our children will follow Jesus…you can count us winners,” he said.
