Danny Gokey Calls for Truth Spoken in Love

Singer Danny Gokey says he is committed to being a “truth and love teller” in a culture he describes as divided and chaotic, insisting that biblical truth must not be abandoned.

“We should never get away from speaking the truth,” Gokey told CBN News. “Truth sets people free.”

Acknowledging that some reject biblical standards, he compared truth to unchanging natural laws. “We can sit there and protest gravity,” he said. “We can make laws against gravity. You can cancel people over saying gravity is real, or that fire is hot. But, the thing is … it is what it is, and we’re not doing any favors playing around and mincing words to make people happy.”

At the same time, Gokey emphasized compassion. “I do want to speak truth, but I want to do [it] in love, and I just don’t want to hit people on the head with it,” he said.

That balance shapes his music, including his album “Sound of Heaven,” released July 26. Before recording, he said he prays for guidance. “God is the greatest songwriter of all time,” Gokey said. “Lord, give me some inspiration.”

The former “American Idol” contestant said he refuses to let money or fame dictate his calling. “If you start chasing money, that becomes the God,” he warned.

Gokey’s journey includes deep loss. His first wife, Sophia, died from complications related to a heart disorder just weeks before his “American Idol” audition. Reflecting on hardship, he said, “One thing I do know is that joy is strength.”

“I’ve learned that fame doesn’t give joy; it puts more pressure on,” he added, stressing that true joy comes from remaining rooted in Christ. “The kingdom of God is righteousness, joy, and peace.”

Ultimately, Gokey says his goal is simple: “Jesus didn’t do things for the crowd. I want God to do all that He wills to accomplish His will through me.”
