Matiok Santino (16), a Christian youth from South Sudan living in Cairo, Egypt, was taken into police custody on April 12 as he was leaving an Easter church service.
“Family members of detainees and Christian advocates say hundreds of South Sundanese and Sudanese Christians remain behind bars under harsh conditions, most on baseless charges. Police confiscate their passports and stay permits in order to prolong keeping them incarcerated.”
Matiok was transferred to another detention facility on May 2 and the police have not been cooperative as his family has been seeking to contact him.
Heavenly Father, this young man, Matiok, is facing extremely difficult conditions in a harsh detention facility away from his family. Give him the strength he needs to endure this crisis. Protect him from harm. Help his family to find him and get legal assistance to rescue him from the authorities holding him. He has committed no crime. May Matiok grow up to be Your servant and represent You in a significant way in the future. In Your mighty name we pray. Amen.
