Faith Back in the Public Square, Says Ministry Leader

A Christian ministry leader praised President Donald Trump for what he described as bringing faith back into the public square, while sharply contrasting the current administration with what he called hostility toward religion under President Joe Biden. JP De Gance, founder and president of the nonprofit Communio, said recent cultural and political shifts may be contributing to renewed religious engagement, citing reports of church membership growth and noting that the long rise of religious non-affiliation has recently stalled.
De Gance pointed to specific contrasts between the two administrations, saying the Biden administration was viewed by many believers as actively hostile to faith, including decisions surrounding religious holidays and the prosecution of pro-life activists under the FACE Act, whom Trump later pardoned. He said the current administration has shown greater openness toward faith, reflected in public expressions by senior officials and Trump’s own statements describing America as a “nation of believers.”
He added that moments of national suffering present an opportunity for political leaders to openly embrace faith rather than sideline it. After his remarks, De Gance also urged swift federal action in response to anti-ICE activists who disrupted a Minnesota church service, saying mob intimidation should not undermine fundamental freedoms, a sentiment Trump echoed by calling the incident “horrible.”
