Hannah Harper won Season 24 of American Idol and closed the finale in tears with a worship performance of Chris Tomlin’s “At The Cross (Love Ran Red),” as fellow contestants and judges gathered around her onstage.
After the win, Harper wrote, “I’m beyond thankful for the doors the Lord has opened,” quoting Jeremiah 29:11 and thanking viewers for helping carry her dream further than she imagined.
Harper, a 26-year-old mother of three from Willow Springs, Missouri, has openly shared her faith throughout the season. During an earlier “Songs of Faith” episode, she said her performance was an “opportunity to give an invitation” to Jesus.
Her original song “String Cheese” came from a difficult season of postpartum depression and reminded her that motherhood was the biggest ministry God had given her. In the finale, Harper returned to that song, performed with Lee Ann Womack, and then ended the night by pointing the moment back to the cross.
