UFC champion Jon Jones openly spoke about core Christian beliefs during a press conference, saying that Christianity teaches all people are born into sin and must choose to follow Christ. Addressing a question about morality, Jones acknowledged his own flaws and emphasized the need for repentance and faith rather than self-righteousness.
“Some people are not going to want to hear this,” Jones said, “but in the Christian faith, we believe that we’re all born into sin. Naturally, we’re all sinners.” Referencing the story of Adam and Eve, he added, “The moment that Adam bit that apple in the Garden of Eden, we all became kind of condemned to sin.”
Jones explained that Christianity centers on a personal decision to follow Jesus. “The way Christianity works is, it’s a decision to accept Christ into your life and to accept Christ into your heart,” he said. Reflecting on human nature, he added, “Naturally, my nature is one of sin. And that’s all of us.”
Despite that reality, Jones said believers are called to pursue a different path. “I believe that it’s our job to try to do the right things and to try to walk in the light instead of the darkness,” he said, concluding, “I think we are all rotten at the end of the day and trying to do the right things.”
