Karen Whitsett says she is standing firm in her decision to walk away from politics because of her Christian faith.
The Detroit lawmaker explained that she no longer believes she can reconcile the Democratic Party’s platform with Scripture, and because of that, she will not seek reelection or run for public office again.
Whitsett said the decision is spiritual rather than political, sharing that she had “compromised” her relationship with Jesus for too long and now wants to remain fully committed to Him. She pointed to issues such as abortion, homosexuality, and gender identity as areas where she believes the party’s positions conflict with her faith.
Whitsett added that she answers to God above public approval and hopes her words encourage others to seek Him
