Kathie Lee Gifford: Faith Over Religion

Television host and author Kathie Lee Gifford says she is “anti-religion” — even as her Christian faith shapes every aspect of her life.

In an interview with Fox News Digital ahead of emceeing Childhelp’s Drive The Dream gala in Phoenix, the 72-year-old said her walk with God is not about religious structure but relationship. “The Bible talks about prayer without ceasing. Our life should be nonstop prayer, nonstop conversation, dialog, and walk with our Lord,” she said. “It’s not a religion. I am very anti-religion. Religion puts people in chains and Jesus takes them away.”

Gifford emphasized that she does not divide her life into sacred and secular categories. “I don’t separate the secular from the spiritual,” she said. “It’s all one life, lived in accordance with God’s blessing, with His teaching, His guidance.”

Known for speaking openly about her beliefs, Gifford said she answers to God above public opinion. “I don’t care what people think. I care what He thinks,” she said, adding that she prays before she speaks and trusts the Holy Spirit to guide her words.

A longtime advocate for abused and at-risk children, Gifford has supported Childhelp since 1996. “God loves all the little children,” she said. “We’re all made in the image of God.” She added, “You can never out give God. The more I give away, the more He gives me.”

While she admits she feels anger when children are harmed — “I get actually furious when people hurt children” — she believes faith offers hope and restoration. Through organizations like Childhelp, she said, children can “find forgiveness, find faith, find purpose.”

For Gifford, faith is not ritual but daily surrender. “In Him we live and move and have our very being,” she said. “Every nanosecond of our lives is in service to our Lord.”
