Actor Kevin Sorbo says that despite decades of fame from projects like “Hercules” and “God’s Not Dead,” he has never walked away from the Christian faith he embraced as a child.
“In later teenage years in my 20s, I did a lot of stupid things,” Sorbo said. “But I never went away from my faith. I never had that crisis where I didn’t believe in God or believe in Jesus.”
Raised near Minneapolis by what he described as “very devoted Christians,” Sorbo said his parents laid a strong spiritual foundation. As a teen active in youth group, he heard sermons that made Scripture practical and personal.
One defining moment came when he was 13 and attended a Billy Graham crusade at the St. Paul fairgrounds. With hundreds of thousands gathered under a full moon, Sorbo said the atmosphere was unforgettable. During the event, he felt a hand on his head and turned around to see Graham standing behind him.
“His head was perfectly behind the full moon… and I… got goosebumps,” Sorbo recalled. The moment left a lasting impact. Years later, after recounting the story publicly, Graham’s team included it in a “Chicken Soup” book, and Sorbo later developed a friendship with Franklin Graham.
Sorbo’s path to Hollywood began at age 11 after seeing a stage production that captivated him. Though he was a self-described athlete, he eventually pursued drama, landing commercial work before being discovered by Gianni Versace and later starring in “Hercules.”
Through success and opportunity, Sorbo said his faith remained steady. He never experienced a crisis of belief and credits his upbringing and early spiritual encounters as anchors throughout his career.
