Actor Kevin Sorbo says his Christian faith has remained steady throughout fame and success, rooted in childhood and reinforced by a powerful encounter with evangelist Billy Graham when he was just 13 years old. Reflecting on his youth, Sorbo said, “In later teenage years in my 20s, I did a lot of stupid things. But I never went away from my faith. I never had that crisis where I didn’t believe in God or believe in Jesus.”
Raised by what he described as “very devoted Christians” near Minneapolis, Sorbo said faith was always central to his family life. Recalling the Billy Graham crusade at the St. Paul fairgrounds, he said, “It was a hot August night… there were, like, 300,000 people there outside. It was amazing — full moon was out.” The moment became unforgettable when Graham unexpectedly approached him. “I turned around and it was Billy Graham,” Sorbo said. “His head was perfectly behind the full moon… and I got goosebumps.”
That encounter stayed with him into adulthood and later came full circle when Sorbo shared the story publicly and connected with the Graham family. “It was really cool,” he said. “That was kind of an important time in my life.” Despite a long Hollywood career, Sorbo said he never felt pulled away from his beliefs, explaining that his faith in Jesus was formed early and never abandoned.
