Leaving a Sorority for Faith Convictions

“Dr. LaTanya Moore drew national attention in 2023 after announcing she was ending her nearly 20-year membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., explaining that her decision stemmed from her Christian convictions.

In an interview with CBN News, Moore said she grew uneasy about the sorority’s symbolic references to Minerva, the Roman goddess, as well as certain initiation elements — including oaths, bowing at an altar, and ceremonial songs — that she felt conflicted with biblical worship. “We’re only supposed to worship one God,” she stated.

Moore also shared that she believes God revealed her membership had opened spiritual “doors” in her life. After formally renouncing her affiliation, she says she experienced what she describes as deliverance, including supernatural healing and financial breakthrough.

Despite public criticism, Moore maintains her choice was not an attack on the sorority, but a personal commitment to “be fully one with the true and living God.””
