Mel Gibson’s long-awaited follow-up to The Passion of the Christ has reportedly wrapped production, with a two-part release planned for 2027.
The films, titled The Resurrection of the Christ: Part 1 and Part 2, are set to arrive on March 26 and May 6, placing the story directly in the Easter season. More than 20 years after The Passion became one of the most influential faith-based films ever made, Gibson is turning from the suffering of Christ to the central hope of Christianity: the resurrection.
While story details remain limited, the films are expected to explore Jesus’ victory over death, the disciples’ shaken faith, and the meaning of the resurrection for the world. Jim Caviezel is widely expected to return as Jesus.
With filming complete, attention now turns to post-production and growing anticipation among global Christian audiences.
